Shennie Smith is an artist, singer and songwriter from Norway, and she grew up in Oslo with her parents and a younger sister. During high school she majored in Arts, and when she graduated she moved to Playa Del Carmen in Mexico to study philosophy for one semester. In the fall of 2007 Shennie moved to Santa Barbara, California to study Sociology and Business, and pursue her lifelong dream as a musician. Shennie started as many other musicians: at an open mic. And now, two years later, Shennie is working on recording her first record at Playback Recording Studio in Santa Barbara, and is recording music videos with her good friend and producer Veronica Vånglin. Shennie recently started her own record label ‘Dirty Bubblegum Records’ which currently functions as a gathering of artist’s portfolios such as web/graphic designers, producers and photographers.
During Shennie’s free time she enjoys spending time with friends, working on her music career and travelling to other cities and countries to find inspiration and motivation for her music and arts. Music has always been a source for comfort and happiness for Shennie; the lyrics and melodies have helped her through though and difficult times in life. Shennie has been influenced by many different artists and musicians, but the one artist that has remained a role model and inspiration to her since her early teens is Christina Aguilera. Christina's personal strength, powerful voice and honest lyrics have been a significant source of motivation for Shennie; to keep her dreams and passion alive, when it comes to music as well as life in general. Shennie's musical influences ranges from Backstreet Boys to Marilyn Manson and amongst some of her favorites are KoRn, System of a Down, Kings of Leon, Lady Gaga, Britney Spears and Blink 182.
“As long as I get to sing and create music, I'm happy. It's such an important part of who I am, and singing has always been what I've turned to for comfort in any situation. Deciding to incorporate music into my everyday life, in the form of business/work, is the best thing I've ever done”.
